Scratch: Adventures on the High Seas

 Hello Students:


Today you are going to learn how to make a project in Scratch by following directions in a series of videos.

 1)       Open the Grade 5 page on the PS 138 Homepage.

  2)         Click on Adventures on the High Sea


3)         SClick on and watch the High Seas introduction

4) On the right side of the page, click on "sign in".  Sign in as a student using your Google username and password.

5)       Continue watching the videos and programming for your project.  You must get comfortable with switching between the video tab and the Scratch tab.

  6)        Raise your hand when you’re finished or if you have a question.

Sign In To Google Classroom

I Can:  Sign into Google Classroom using my DOE username and password.


Welcome Students!


Today we are going to get you logged in to your Google Classroom.

I will be handing out your usernames and passwords.

Sign in to Classroom at classroom.google.com.

1)  If asked, click "I'm a student".

2) On the homepage, click "Join your first class" above the arrow.

3) Enter the class code: xfjgxed and click "join".


After you have joined your class, you will complete a short survey about yourself.

Procedure:  
1)      Open and read the survey posted by the teacher, which asks you to answer a series of questions about yourself. 
2)      Answer the questions.
3)      Check spelling and grammar using the rubric posted here.

Hello Students:

Welcome to our Technology class. You are living during a time when we are experiencing the largest increase in expressive capability in human history. It will be a function of this class to help you become effective communicators in the media of your time.

We will be meeting here and online every week where we will use and study technology.  

Today you will be assigned a seat here in our classroom, we'll go over the rules and then jump right in to our first assignment.


The Rules Of Our Class:

1) Be respectful of yourself and others.
2) Raise your hand to speak during class.
3) Listen quietly while others are speaking.
4) Always do your best!


Procedure for entering the classroom:

a)      Form two lines in the hall outside the classroom
b)      Sit down in your assigned seat.
c)       DO NOT turn on the computers or put on the headphones until asked to do so.
d)      Listen quietly to hear what the days assignment is.

Procedure for leaving the classroom:
a)      Sign out of Google Classroom
b)      Shut down your computer from onscreen menu.
c)       DO NOT turn off the computer using the power button.
d)      DO NOT power off the monitor.
e)      Stand up, push in your chair and go out the back way to line up by the door when asked to do so.




Assessment

Each week you will be given an assignment to complete in class.  I will keep track of your work in a Google Doc that looks like this:




Technology Rubric

Got it! = The main idea of the assignment is clear and related to the purpose or theme of the project.


Working on it! = The main idea of the assignment is more or less clear and related to the purpose or theme of the project.

Needs Help = Completed week's assignment approaching standard. The completed assignment does not have a clear purpose or central theme. 

Absent = Assignment was not completed.


Final Grade Rubric

All grades of “Got it!” for the projects and weekly assignments, along with good behavior, during a grading period will result in a final grade of:

4

A mixture of “Got it!” and “Working on it!” for the projects and weekly assignments, along with good behavior, during a grading period will result in a final grade of:

3

A mixture of “Working on it!” and “Needs help” for the projects and weekly assignments and questionable classroom behavior during a grading period will result in a final grade of:

2

A collection of “Needs help” for the projects and weekly assignments along with unexcused absences from class and poor classroom behavior during a grading period will result in a final grade of:

1

Their are) 20 students in my class. yesterday we all went on a feald trip to a, candy f-actory. I liked watching the people make candy apples. the first step was washing the apples. After the apples Dried, the peopple put wooden sticks in them, The next step was Dipping the apples, into different flavors of soft candy? After the candy dried, the apples were ready to eat. Each one costs 1.50$ in the store. We all got candy appleS for free. My apple was dipped in peanut butter candy.

Chicken Fat

Hello Students:

When I was your age (a long long time ago), President John F. Kennedy started The President's Council on Physical Fitness. Chicken Fat was the theme song. Click here to listen to the song.

In my elementary school, we would use this song to exercise.  Click here and follow the instructor to do the exercises yourself.  You can ask your parents, brothers and sisters to do it with you.

MYON with Vocabulary Reflection


Hello Students:

Today you will sign into MYON (using your username and password) and read a book (or books) of your choosing.

While you are reading, you will find two new vocabulary words that you don’t know and write them down in the Google Form you will find attached to my lesson in your Google Classroom.  You will also write the definition of each word and how you figured out its meaning.

Welcome to Distance Learning with Google Meet!

Hello Students and Parents:

Today we will begin our distance learning adventure  together. We are going to start by practicing signing into Google Classroom and joining a Google Meet.

Here's how to do it:

1) Sign into classroom.google.com using your Google username and password.  Your screen should look like this:



In the upper right hand corner, click on the square of dots and click on "Calendar".





After you have opened the calendar click on "Google Meet w/ Mr. Almaas"



Click on "Join Hangouts Meet"
Click on "Join Now" and if all goes well, we will be connected.
